An ideal fishing location. The Gold coast, just one hours drive from Brisbane, and a tad further from Mooloolaba is home to some fantastic fishing locations.
No matter what type or style of fishing tickles your fancy, the Gold coast and surrounding areas have plenty to offer both the avid angler, and novices alike. For instance you can tackle everything from freshwater Bass and Cod right through to the high end ocean predators like Marlin, Mahi mahi and Wahoo to name just a few. Not to mention everything in between such as your estuary and offshore reef dwelling fish.
The Gold coast beaches stretch from Tweed heads on the border all the way to the Gold coast seaway entrance. Further north, Stradbroke island offers endless beach fishing opportunities. Species: Dart, Mulloway, Tailor, Bream, Flathead.
The south east Queensland region is an estuary fishing mecca! To the south we start with the mighty Tweed river, followed by Currumbin and Tallebudgera creeks just a few miles north. Continuing north you will mind an absolute maze of tidal canals followed by the Nerang river and the Gold coast broadwater. Species: Flathead, Mangrove jack, Bream, Trevally, Estuary cod, Mulloway and more.
If your a freshwater fishing enthusiast the upper reaches of the Nerang river and the Hinze dam are well worth a visit. Further west in the Scenic rim region you will find Maroon and Moogerah dams. Species include: Australian Bass, Mary river cod and Saratoga.
The pacific ocean to the east of the Gold coast is home to wide variety of both bottom demersal dwelling and high speed pelagic species. Of course to access this fishery you will require a boat.
