Valentine’s Day with Gold Coast Fishing Charters
Australia’s Wild Weather during January
We hope the impact of the bushfires, floods and Ex-Tropical Cyclone Oswald was minimal to all your homes and businesses and that your families are safe and well. Runaway Bay Marina copped a battering from the severe weather system on the Australia Day long weekend with 1.5 metre waves coming through the entrance. 2 piers went underwater and sunk, however Fat Hooker thankfully remained safe during the ordeal.
Foam produced from the wild seas at Currumbin
Thanks to the dreadful northerly winds and Ex-Tropical Cyclone Oswald, Fat Hooker was only able to get out 1 week during January. On the days we could get out, the fish were scarce in the closer grounds making the full day trips much more successful when we could get out wide. We hooked up wahoo, tuna, black marlin and the occasional spotted mackerel.
Monster Giant Trevally – No Photo!
We hooked up the mother of all GT’s on 18 January. It was hooked up at Q1, Surfers Paradise and after enduring a 4.5 hour fight we had ended up down at Snapper Rocks. Joey estimated it was 70kg. Once we finally got it to the boat it was too heavy to lift in the boat. After 4.5 hours of taking photos, everyone’s cameras went flat. Can you believe we didn’t get ONE photo?! Grrrrrr….
Catch of the Month
Catch of the month was a group effort for January and goes to Dave Weiss and our new mates from Orfords Bitumen. They hooked up a few wahoo and tuna on their full day trip in the first week of January. One lucky crew member wins a free trip on Fat Hooker. Congratulations! We look forward to seeing you soon guys!
