Fishing Update

The month of April was a total mixed bag. The first 2 weeks were a write-off with rough weather, however the weather over the last couple of weeks have been bliss and we look forward to the calmer winter weather which is to come.

It was a very quiet mackerel season over summer, but the deep sea winter species are well and truly about in big numbers. We have been catching pearl perch, snapper, trag jew in abundance and a couple of tuskies and flathead per trip.

A Smartphone App that will save lives at sea

The Australian Volunteer Coast Guard has announced the arrival of an exciting new smartphone app – SafeTrx.

Its purpose is to encourage anyone heading out to sea for leisure, sport or professionally to let the Australian Volunteer Coast Guard know in advance.

Getting to casualties early is key for their search and rescue units. The new SafeTrx App has the potential to get rescue resources on the scene as quickly as possible which will in turn save lives.

The new App is so easy to use, it requires you to input trip details before heading out on the water and it will track your movement and trigger an alert if you have not returned as expected. The App can be used for other activites including bushwalking and 4×4 driving and is Iphone and Android compatible.
